General Practice Data for Planning and Research
The way data is collected from GP systems is being replaced.
This collection is called GP Data for Planning and Research and its purpose is to support the data needs of the health and social care system including policy development, public health, planning and commissioning of services and research. This new collection is designed to reduce the number of requests for access to data received by general practice.

More detailed information can be found via NHS Digital, including the process of how you can opt out.
Data collection has been deferred and will start on 30th September 2021. If you do not want your data shared with NHS Digital, you need to register this by end of August. You can do this by either completing this form and returning to us or can opt out via the NHS app.
You can view or change your current preference at any time.
To view and change your preference in the NHS App:
- Go to Your health
- Select Choose if data from your health and care records is shared for planning and research.
- Select Make your choice.
- Review the information on the page, then select Start now.
- View your preference, then select Change if you want to change it.
- Update your choice, then select Submit.
