Medical Students
Albert Road Surgery teaches medical students from Sunderland University School of Medicine and we help them to develop a variety of skills including how to consult with patients.
During an appointment with a Medical Student, they will ask the questions usually asked by the GP and may also request to examine patients under the supervision and guidance of the GP. These appointments are very similar to a ‘normal’ GP consultation, except that the GP may not always be present when the student talks to you, but will see you straight after. The GP will be supervising the student, has overall responsibility for your consultation and will be responsible for all decisions about your care as usual.
Please also note that:
- You can refuse to see the student
- You can ask the student to stop at any time during the consultation
- You can leave the consultation at any time
- You can ask the GP to take over at any time
Please be rest assured that the care you receive from the practice will not be affected in any way by you choosing any of these options.
If you have any further questions, you can ask the receptionist or your doctor at the start of any consultation.
