Fitness to Fly

You may be asked for proof of your “fitness to fly” when requesting assistance during flights. If you have a stable condition, there is generally no need to be cleared for travel.

There are usually two parts to the medical clearance process:

  1. You will be asked to provide information about your situation or condition and, for many passengers, this will be all you will need to complete.
  2. If the airline has concerns about how flying might impact your particular condition, it will ask you to complete a further form.

You may also be asked to provide medical proof at this stage, often a doctor’s note.  Please be aware that there will be a charge levied for any letters you request in relation to your fitness to fly.

Please be aware that it can take up to 20 working days (after we have received payment) to complete this work, we advise those that require this information not to leave things until the last minute, as it may not be possible to get the required information to you in time.  Our secretarial team will be able to advise you of payment fees and turnaround time when you telephone the practice.

Even with a letter from your doctor the final decision on whether to accept a passenger for flight is the legal responsibility of the airline / aircraft commander.
